Bird-In-Hand Half Marathon: Running with the Amish

I hate running, but I do it to stay in shape.  In order to keep me motivated I sign Brian and I up for a half marathon! 13.1 miles!! Brian helped me train and ran the whole 13.1 miles with me.  We chose to to the half marathon in Bird-In-Hand.  It is a cute little town in Lancaster County.  We spent our first anniversary in the same area, and loved it there.  The best part about doing the race in Lancaster County is that the Amish people run with you!! The pacers during the race were Amish people and all the aid stations had cute little Amish children handing out water and Powerade. To top it all off there was a hot air balloon launch before the race and we got to run through the Amish country! It was so beautiful, but still the worst idea I've ever had.  13 miles is a LONG way and I was hurting by the end.  The only reason why I finished was because Brian motivated me to keep going.  It was 80 degrees out and 70% humidity and it was 7 o'clock in the morning!!  The heat and humidity was almost unbearable so that made the run even worse.  But!! I did have fun.  Everyone was so friendly and excited to be there.  I said I would never do that again, but I would, as long as it wasn't so hot!!

Before the race:

 Balloons!!!

Waiting for the race to start!!

Before the race.....I wasn't this happy after the race when I got to the finish line

Minutes to go! And then we are off!

Beautiful countryside, beautiful day for a run

The start!! There were so many people!

Brian was my camera man.  Since he walks about as fast as I run, he was able to take
lots of pictures for me
 My handsome cameraman!!

Camels....at one of the aid stations....

We finished!!! Our medals are horseshoes and the are so heavy!  I don't know who thought it was a good idea to give exhausted runners a super heavy medal to carry after a 3 hour race! I was so happy to be done, but it was such a good time (minus the heat).
