One Day....Two Celebrations!

March 26th, 2011.... I couldn't have asked for a better day! 1) It was the season opener for the REAL SALT LAKE!!!!My boys are BACK!! At least twice a month from now until October, I get to see my favorite team play...and by play, I mean kick trash. 2) The annual Holi Festival of Colors at the Hindu Temple that brings thousands and thousands of people to Spanish Fork, Utah. This is the third or fourth year that I've gone to it, but this year is the year we got smart about it!. Once the color is thrown in the air you literally cannot breathe. There is a lot of choking and a lot of coughing and not a lot of anything else. So this year Alice and I bought bandannas to go over our faces! It was 1000 times better! There was one other thing we did differently this year. Many years ago when I first came to Utah, there was only 1 throwing of the color. In the past 5 years this festival has exploded and now they do color throwings every 2 hours. When there was only one throwing it was really easy to keep clean and white up until it was time to throw the color. Now, there is no hope at all. The minute you walk onto the temple property and people see you haven't been hit with color, they throw it at you. The past few years I have held back throwing color early because it seemed kind of disrespectful to the culture and the people. This year Alice and I resisted throwing the color early for a little while, but then decided that we would try it out. Oh my word! It is so much fun just throwing color at people! We felt like we were in Harry Potter and every time we case a spell colored powder would fly out of our hands. It was SO much more fun!! Needless to say, I'm glad we broke the rules a little this year.

This kid was hilarious. This year we got stopped at the gates and our bags were searched for outside color. As we are standing there I turn around and see this little boy holding a bag of illegal, outside color. So naturally, I say, "That is totally illegal. You better hide it." As he is frantically searching for a place to hide it, Alice whispers "Stick it down your pants!" and he did it! When we decided to take gangster pictures with him, my picture came out with him being more in love with me. We started our day off by teaching a little boy how to smuggle in illegal substances.

I've been hit!

Because it had been raining and snowing the entire day before the festival, the nice grassy hill we usually sit on was transformed into this muddy mess. We did not venture down it.

There was a weird little lake next to some weird little midget camel cows. I'm concerned about the kind of animal breeding going on at this place....

It begins! This picture is pointed at the sky. As you can (or can't see) the sun is not visible. That is how intense the color is.

Before and After

After the festival, a shower, food and a nap Alice and I drove back to Salt Lake of the Real Salt Lake Game. We played the LA Galaxy...which happens to be the team beautiful David Beckham plays for. Since we have a player with the last name of Beckerman, there was an awesome sign that said "Our Becks is better than your Becks." It made my night....my very cold and rainy night.

That giant flag made its way around the entire stadium. I was really excited about it.
