Just A Couple of Americans Doing American Things - 'Merica's Capital

Winter is finally over!! Brian and I decided to get out and take a little weekend away in D.C.  This was Brian's first time visiting D.C. so we tried to get in as much as we could.

Our first stop was at George Washington's Mount Vernon

Checking out a model of the house before our tour

 Such a beautiful front lawn

Brian - contemplating the meaning of life while looking out over the Potomac

Tomb of George and Martha Washington

Our second day in D.C started with a tour of Ford's Theater. We took a self guided audio tour of the museum.

We both just wanted to fit in with the crowd of statues.

I don't want to brag, but we are PRETTY good at being tourist

The balcony where President Lincoln was shot

After our tour we spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the National Mall and seeing all the buildings surrounding the Capitol Building

View of the Washington Moment from the Capitol Building

One of my favorite buildings in D.C, the Library of Congress

Outside the Library of Congress is a fountain that has a much of half horse, half mermaid creatures. When I visited John in D.C. a few years ago he came up with the perfect name for them - horemaids.

The three photos above were all taken inside the Library of Congress.  The building is so beautiful, pictures don't do it justice.  It is so elaborate!

We had a chance to take a tour of the Capitol Building too!  Inside of the Capitol each state is allowed to display two statues that help to represent the state. However, there are more than 100 statues in the Capitol because some statues were given as gifts as well.

Brigham Young!! Utah Represent!!!

On our walk home there were a bunch of funny signs that were hilarious, but also SO TRUE!

The rest of our trip we spent walking around and visiting most of the monuments in D.C. We didn't see them all, but we came close!

The White House

The Washington Monument

The Lincoln Monument

The view from the exact spot that Martin Luther King gave his "I have a dream" speech

Marking the spot where Dr. King gave his famous speech

The Korean War Monument

The new Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument

The Thomas Jefferson Monument

 We were rocking "The Nixon!"

Arlington Cemetery

The Eternal Flame - John F. Kennedy grave site

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Even though it was just a weekend getaway, we had so much fun in Washington D.C!! We saw so much! It was so great to relax and enjoy the sunshine!
