The Apostle Islands - One Long Weekend

If the Apostle Islands aren't on your bucket list, they should be.  They are beautiful and historic and just so happen to be about 5 hours away from us.  There are 21 islands and Lake Superior offers some great kayaking.  Our original plan was to kayak to one of the islands to camp, but do to weather and my extreme anxiety about being on open, murky water (I hate water when I can't see the bottom) we decided to camp at St. Croix State Park.  We had a great time paddling around Lake Superior and exploring the area.  We love our little kayak.  Before our adventure we stopped in the cute little town of Washburn, WI.  Brian stumbled upon it so, of course, we had to visit.  We ate lunch at an adorable cafe which had OK food, but the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had! Seriously, I would drive 5 hours back to Washburn, WI just to have one of those cinnamon rolls.

Brian was so excited

There were cute signs all over the town. "Washburn" was everywhere!

Lake Superior..it's basically an ocean

It took us some time to find the right place to kayak, but we finally got our little boat in the water!!

Love adventuring with this guy

Smiling, but tense cause I thought the kayak was floating away from the shore...

Just paddling along

After a nearly a 3 hour drive and almost running out of gas because we had no cell service
(we were saved by a little old lady driving by who gave us direction to a gas station) we finally made it to St. Croix!

Since we had planned to kayak to an island to camp, we only had our small backpacking tent. It is so cute, our air mattress BARELY fit in it.

Taking a little hike to a scenic overview

Enjoying the overview in the rain

The best part about the Midwest...all the trees

When checking into our campsite we bought a little "Colorful Fire" packet. It was the
best $2 we've ever spent!

My mom is best at getting me camping gear, and I've held onto it all! These are just a few of the lights we've been given, and we love them!
